'Dokdo is ours!'

English한국어 원문

[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim]  Cheonan Middle School (Principal Heo Hae-ryong) held the '2026 Day of Dokdo Commemorative Event,' which was organized by the student self-governance committee and attended by all students, on October 25 in observance of the Day of Dokdo.

This event was organized to enable students to correctly understand the historical and geographical value of Dokdo and to cultivate their interest in and patriotism toward our territory. In particular, by planning various participatory programs with the Student Self-Government Council at the center, it added significance by eliciting students' voluntary participation.

On this morning at school start time, the 'Dokdo Know More Quiz Event' utilizing the school's own mileage platform 'Cheonjong Mileage' was conducted. Students participated in quizzes composed of various themes including the history, geography, ecological environment, and territory protection activities of Dokdo, thereby accumulating knowledge about Dokdo. Students who answered all questions correctly were provided with 50 points in mileage and some snacks, which heightened the enthusiasm for participation.

In addition, a 'Lukdo Love Lucky Roulette Event' will be operated in the future for quiz participants, with various prizes to be awarded. Through this, the goal is to induce students' sustained interest and participation, rather than limiting the event to a one-time occurrence.

During lunchtime, the 'Dokdo Direct Puzzle Contest' was held for students who had registered in advance. Through the activity of completing direct puzzles depicting the appearance of Dokdo, students familiarized themselves with Dokdo's terrain and natural environment and took time to reflect on the importance of Dokdo. In particular, by linking knowledge acquisition through quizzes with experiential activities using puzzles, the understanding of Dokdo among students was naturally expanded.

This event is noteworthy for integrating digital platforms and experiential programs to enable students to develop interest in Dokdo in an easy and enjoyable manner in their daily lives. Furthermore, the educational significance is great in that the student self-governance committee actively planned and operated the event and practiced a student-centered self-governance culture.

The student council president who planned the event said, 'I wanted to create an event where friends can learn more about Dokdo and feel the importance of our territory on Dokdo Day,' and added, 'We hope that interest in Dokdo will increase through activities that anyone can enjoy participating in, such as quizzes and puzzles.'

Heo Hae-ryong said that 'a correct understanding of Dokdo and the sense of territorial defense are important civic qualities that future generations must possess,' and expressed the hope that 'this event, which students directly planned and participated in, will be a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the historical significance of Dokdo.' He further added that 'we will actively support efforts to cultivate correct historical awareness and a sense of community through various education activities led by students in the future.'

Cheonan Middle School plans to expand participatory educational activities on various topics such as history, culture, and human rights, centered on the student self-governance committee, to support students in developing their capacities as democratic citizens and their sense of community.
