[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim] A place for hikers and office workers to rest is being prepared in Yuryang-dong, where forest trails meet cultural spaces. It is scheduled to welcome its first guests on October 28 at 223 Taejosan-gil.
A place to enjoy a warm meal and take a short break on the way to and from Taejosan is coming to Yuryang-dong in Cheonan. Taejo Rest Stop, located at 223 Taejosan-gil in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan City, is preparing to welcome its first guests on October 28, 2026. The idea is to create a place where morning hikers, office workers and other people visiting Yuryang-dong can enjoy a simple meal and a rest, and that people will remember as a new Cheonan landmark.
The direction of the space is expressed in the words on its sign: "A warm meal, the happiness of taking a break." It aims to be a welcoming rest stop where people can comfortably satisfy their hunger after a hike, catch their breath during the working day, or share food while out with family or friends.
The Taejosan-gil area has leisure facilities that fit with this idea. According to Cheonan Urban Corporation's facility guide, Taejosan Park has walking paths connected to hiking trails, a 1.4 km barrier-free Nanum Trail, and a park car park with space for 300 vehicles. The setting welcomes people looking for a gentle walk and a rest as well as those climbing the mountain.
Visitor figures for the forest activity facilities are also available. At a plenary session of Cheonan City Council on October 23, 2026, the president of Cheonan Urban Corporation said that the Taejosan Forest Leisure Sports Complex had received about 7,900 visitors in 2025 and about 9,300 by the end of September 2026. The total through September this year had already surpassed the figure for the whole of the previous year, indicating the number of people coming to experience Taejosan's forest.
The 2026 operating guide on the Korea Forest Service's Supnadeul-e portal lists a zip coaster, an aerial net course, forest adventures for teenagers and adults and for children, and a children's playground. The surrounding facilities add hands-on activities to hiking and walking, providing the backdrop for Taejo Rest Stop's plans to welcome a wide range of visitors, from hikers to families on outings.
Taejosan-gil also offers opportunities for cultural outings. Ligak Museum of Art, introduced by the Korea Tourism Organization, stands on the same road at 245 Taejosan-gil and has a 15,700-square-metre outdoor sculpture park and an 850-square-metre indoor exhibition hall. An itinerary that combines viewing outdoor sculptures and exhibitions with something to eat illustrates how a visit to Yuryang-dong can bring together the forest and art.
The area's combination of walking routes, forest activities and museum visits suggests that a place offering a quick meal and a rest could become part of a visitor's itinerary. In this setting, Taejo Rest Stop is preparing a comfortable place to pause during a trip and aims to give people one more reason to visit Yuryang-dong.
The proposed shop sign features 6 food items: waxy corn, roasted chestnuts, udon, fish cakes, squid and Hangang ramyeon. By presenting dishes suitable for a meal alongside snacks that are easy to share, it suggests a range of occasions for a visit, from satisfying hunger before or after a hike to enjoying a snack during an outing.
The aim is to be a place that comes naturally to mind on days when people want to warm up with a hot broth-based dish, or share corn or roasted chestnuts while pausing for a conversation. Taejo Rest Stop is preparing an experience that combines simple food with time to rest: a familiar place people can drop into, without grand promises.
It aims to become a place for an everyday meal and a short break for office workers, a rest stop at the start and end of a hike for hikers, and a food stop on a Yuryang-dong outing for families and friends. Although their reasons for visiting may differ, the common thread is a place they can comfortably drop into. That is the kind of space Taejo Rest Stop intends to create.
Taejo Rest Stop envisions a future as a place people remember when visiting Yuryang-dong, and a landmark they mention when introducing Cheonan. Its ambition is to combine the ease of a forest walk with the pleasure of a meal, offering familiar food and time to rest as it grows into a new Yuryang-dong hotspot and a Cheonan dining destination. This small rest stop, set within the scenery of Taejosan-gil, is expected to bring fresh enjoyment to residents' daily lives and outings.
