[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim]  - A joint civil-military training was conducted with participation of over 100 people from 9 related agencies and local coordination bodies.

Cheonan City strengthened its ability for rapid evacuation of residents and recovery after a chemical accident by conducting a joint drill with relevant agencies.

Cheonan City held a joint meeting with the Chemical Substances Safety and Control Office on the 14th at the City Hall Conference Room to conduct a 'Chemical Accident Response Tabletop Exercise' and a 'Chemical Substances Regional Consultative Body' plenary session.

This training was prepared to check the response system based on actual situations, assuming leaks and fire and explosion accidents caused by abnormal polymerization reactions of chemicals that have been occurring frequently recently.

Cheonan City, including 13 departments, along with the Fire Department, the Geumgang Basin Environmental Agency, South Chungcheong Province, and 100+ members of the chemical substance regional consultation committee composed of government agencies, enterprises, and residents, attended.

The training proceeded by examining each stage of the entire process from initial rapid first-response measures and situation dissemination and disaster alert message dispatch to the activation of the Disaster and Safety Response Headquarters, evacuation center operations, leak containment and ship salvage, waste disposal, and victim support.

In particular, it added distinctiveness by systematically verifying the specific roles of local governments and measures by each department from the occurrence of the accident to final recovery, moving beyond existing training methods that remained at initial suppression and first response measures.

The Chemical Substances Safety and Evaluation Institute plans to produce and distribute a 'Chemical Accident Standard Training Scenario Focusing on Resident Evacuation and Recovery' based on the results of this training to all local self-governing bodies nationwide.

Mayor Kim Seok-pil Cheonan City said, 'Since chemical accidents can lead to large-scale complex damages due to momentary negligence, it is most important that relevant agencies and the local community cooperate organically to minimize damages,' and added, 'We will strengthen the civil-public cooperation system to create a safe city of Cheonan where citizens can feel secure.'
