[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim]  - Through regulatory special approval, a national first case demonstration has been realized.

Cheonan City announced on the 19th that it is set to strengthen the safety net in citizens' lives by introducing a 'quad-legged patrol robot' that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

As part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'On-Device AI Service Demonstration and Dissemination Project,' the 4-leg walking patrol robot demonstration project, which the City has been advancing, has been approved by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Sixth Industrial Convergence Regulatory Special Committee' on the condition of fulfilling additional requirements.

This pilot exemption is a case where the nationwide first allowed patrol of pedestrians by quadruped walking robots. The city has now been able to verify safety services using robots at Cheoncheon, Cheonho Pond, and Samgalli Park.

The consortium company Maum AI's 4-legged patrol robot uses 'physical AI' technology that recognizes the surrounding environment with AI and moves and performs tasks in actual spaces to guide evacuation or transmit on-site situation information to the control system when emergencies such as river flooding and crime occur, thereby supporting early response.

In particular, rail-type robots can patrol areas that are difficult for them to move, such as stairs or ramps, which can supplement safety blind spots that are difficult to confirm with closed-circuit (CC) cameras alone.

The city plans to verify the effects of linking the functions of robots that identify hazardous signs along rivers and emergency situations within parks with the control system in this pilot demonstration. Through this, it aims to verify whether AI technology can contribute to citizen safety in actual urban environments and to concretize a safety service model that can be applied on the ground.

Jang Gi-su said, "We will ensure that our city becomes a demonstration site where various AI technologies, including physical AI, are tested and verified in actual urban spaces," and "We will actively promote AI demonstrations and diffusion to provide enterprises with opportunities to apply innovative technologies on the ground and to enable citizens to experience safer and more convenient daily lives with those results," Cheonan City said.
