[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim]

[BAREUM CNB Publisher Alex Kim] Park Jong-gap, chair of the Construction and Urban Affairs Committee of Cheonan City Council (Pungse-myeon, Gwangdeok-myeon and Sinbang-dong; Democratic Party of Korea), held a meeting on the 2nd with officials from relevant Cheonan City departments and the Cheonan branch of the Korean Disabled Veterans Association to discuss recognition and support for wounded military and police veterans in Cheonan City.
The meeting was arranged to strengthen recognition of wounded military and police veterans who have sacrificed and served their country, and to discuss ways to support efforts to make their distinguished service and patriotism known in the local community.
At the meeting, the Cheonan branch of the Korean Disabled Veterans Association emphasized the need for the local community to remember the sacrifices and contributions of wounded military and police veterans and pass that legacy on to future generations. It proposed that Cheonan City designate a day honoring these veterans. Participants exchanged views on the need for and symbolism of such a commemorative day, its relationship with existing veterans policies, and fairness to other veterans organizations.

While participants agreed on the need to recognize wounded military and police veterans and honor their distinguished service, they expressed a range of views on whether a commemorative day would be appropriate and how to pursue it, including the need for national-level discussions and for the local community to take the initiative. They agreed to gather further views from related organizations and the municipal administration and examine institutional measures to recognize and support these veterans.
Chair Park Jong-gap said, “Recognizing wounded military and police veterans goes beyond simply supporting a particular organization. It is about remembering the distinguished service of those who sacrificed and devoted themselves to the country and passing that legacy on to the next generation.” He added, “Based on the views presented today, we will consult fully with the municipal administration and related organizations and examine reasonable measures that reflect the history and distinctive circumstances of wounded military and police veterans while remaining consistent with veterans policies as a whole.”
